When it comes to flexibility in a multicultural organization, rigid working arrangements eventually become barriers. At Aliz, these barriers evolved into an idea supporting the human-centered approach we are building within our team.
Remember when the pandemic hit and became a major catalyst for remote work? Initially, people tended to adapt, and while adjusting, their performance did not decline. We realized that high-performing teams are often built through a trust-based culture rather than physical presence. Perhaps members of our Data or Infra teams find their "flow state" at 7 PM, while others on our People team might solve a problem while walking their dogs. Consequently, Aliz prioritizes results over hours, recognizing that our team deserves the autonomy to manage their own schedules and environments.
Remote work at Aliz isn't just sitting in a home office; it’s a nomadic, flexible experience. Our team works from home, cafes, or quiet coworking spaces. However, we stay realistic about the challenges, working from a busy cafe can mean navigating connectivity issues and background noise. To support the team, Aliz provides a hardware allowance to ensure everyone has a professional setup. Our team also utilizes noise-canceling tools to ensure seamless communication during calls.
By eliminating long commutes, especially in major cities like Jakarta, our team in Indonesia has more time to focus on their families and personal routines. For Helmi, this means being a present "new dad," witnessing every milestone from the start. This sentiment is shared by many of the fathers on our team who prioritize quality time. For example, Anan and Omar utilize this flexibility to pick up their children from school, while Ade finds peace of mind knowing he can immediately attend to family emergencies or hospital visits without delay.
Beyond family, these perks support personal hobbies. Ridwan can provide attentive care to his pet rabbit (and fish 🐟), while Teguh maintains his health through midday sports sessions with the community by using our Well&Green perks. For Duan in Hanoi, flexibility means the ability to visit Phở Thìn Bờ Hồ for a steaming bowl of noodles, allowing him to recharge without the stress of the busy lunch hour.

When we empower Omar and Wahyu to embrace their fatherhood or enable Ade to handle a family emergency, they don't feel like cogs in a machine; they feel valued and empowered. This safety net leads to better creative output. We don't need to see our team at a desk to know they’re working; we see their contributions, ideas, and support. We set clear expectations, where responsibility and autonomy go hand-in-hand to ensure high-quality output is met without micromanagement. This is supported by team rituals, such as stand-up meetings, Infra hours, and various virtual team-building activities that bridge the physical gap between team members. Ultimately, this balance of freedom and accountability is what makes Aliz a unique place to work.
