Perks from Wonderland: Self-Development at Aliz

Welcome to part two of our "Perks from Wonderland" series, we're excited to tell you about another great benefit here at Aliz: learning and self-development opportunities.

Self-development is one of the most important topic at Aliz. We truly believe that our team members’ continuous growth is key to our organization's success. Therefore, we encourage our people to improve their skills and abilities through on-the-job and off-the-job training.

We’d love to share what we offer to Alizers through training and development opportunities, to promote the growth of individuals and teams!

How do we support Alizers’ self-development?

For our self-development program, we provide dedicated learning time during working hours, along with a budget. This includes 100 hours of learning time per year, split into 50 hours per half-year. This lines up with our performance review timeline, since the topic of learning and self-development is part of how we set goals during that process. On the other hand, we don't have a fixed learning budget per person, so we really encourage the team to dream big!

What Programs Can We Support?

Mostly, we support things related to each person's role. But since there's no fixed list, we're always open to new ideas. So far, here's a look at what we've supported:

  • Certificate programs (e.g., GCP certification, Kubernetes)
  • Formal training sessions
  • Conferences (e.g., Google Cloud Next, Microsoft Ignite, PASS Summit, SQL Intersection, Craft, Ethical Hacking, Crunch Data Conference, Reinforce, DevOpsCon)
  • Online learning subscriptions (e.g., Coursera, Udemy, Udacity)
  • Coaching, psychology sessions
  • eBooks
  • Pet projects
  • Internal or external soft skill trainings 
  • Internal or external language lessons (organized by Aliz: English, German, Bahasa)
  • Employee coaching and mentoring for leadership
  • Special training: If we have 5-6 people interested in a specific topic and we know an expert we can invite for a training, we can organize it!
